Ayrton Senna, eldest son of a wealthy Brazilian family, felt the competitive spirit from an early age. An outstanding karting career was followed by his domination of the 1981 British Formula Ford Championship... in his first season! In 1982 he took the FF2000 season by storm. Ron Dennis of McLaren offered to fund his 1983 F3 season, but Senna refused. Even without McLaren's backing, Senna captured the Championship after a season-long battle with Martin Brundle. In 1984 he found himself driving in F1 with the Toleman-Hart team.

Senna's first GP victory came with the Renault-powered Lotus in 1985. Over his three-year contract with Lotus he earned five more victories before joining Ron Dennis at McLaren, to coincide with McLaren's signing a major deal for Honda to supply engines. The following six years would bring World Championships in each of 1988, 1990 and 1991.

1994 saw his move to Williams-Renault, ending a long relationship with McLaren. To the shock and horror of the F1 community and fans worldwide, in only his third start with Williams at the Grand Prix of San Marino, Senna left the track at great speed whilst in the lead. The accident would prove fatal.

The death of Senna rocked the racing world like no other. Those who were there or watched on television fell into a long silence, unable to truly comprehend what they had witnessed, for Senna rarely put a wheel wrong. He had dominated his sport so thoroughly for so long that he had seemed immortal.

Intense. Unstoppable. A true champion. Ayrton Senna, a Legend of Sport.
