The 1951 Formula One Grand Prix season was an important one on many levels. But the top story was the battle between the Alfa Romeo 'Alfetta' 159s of Fangio and Farina, reigning Champion, and the new Ferraris of Gonzalez and Ascari.
Of seven European Formula One Championship races, Fangio earned the necessary points with three wins in his 'Alfetta' 159 to Ascari's two wins for Ferrari.
Included in this Gift Set is Fangio's 1951 Grand Prix of Spain winner. Going into the race, both Ascari and Fangio needed the win to secure the Drivers' Championship. Ascari was fastest in practice and led from the start. By the fourth lap, however, Fangio took the lead and sailed off to victory, locking up the title and doing Alfa Romeo proud before the team withdrew from Formula One at the end of the season.
