James Garner debuted his two brand new Chevrolet-powered Lola T70 Mk III Coupes at Sebring in 1968. The cars were completely untested but the American actor and now racing team manager had assembled a competent crew and they got the two cars running well.

Lother Motschenbacher was teamed with Dick Guldstrand and Ed Leslie for the tiring 12 hour event to be run over the car-destroying Sebring circuit that was laid out and run on an otherwise active airfield.

The American International Racing team car of Scooter Patrick and Dave Jordan did very well to qualify in fourth, while the trio of American drivers suffered difficulties during qualifying and started the race well back in 34th place out of a very strong 68 car field.

Gremlins would haunt the Chevrolet drivetrain  for a number of races. At the Sebring 12 Hours in 1968, with Motschenbacher at the wheel, those gremlins struck early, the clutch blowing after a mere 12 laps.  Guldstrand and Leslie were denied the opportunity to compete in the race itself.
